How do artworks create meaning in different places and times? And how do different contexts shift the works' reception and meaning? Layered Mediums: We Are in Open Circuits explores how art operates as both physical material and system of communication, tracing connections from our most intimate sensory experiences to mediations of the larger systems and structures that shape our urban, social and cultural conditions. Through three interconnected spheres – the embodied, the cultural, and the systemic– the exhibition maps how artists work with varied technologies to intervene in, interpret and mediate different scales of experience, from the individual, the archival and the collective to the abstract and yet to become. As part of a Collection-based exchange project between Seoul Museum of Art(SeMA) and the Abu Dhabi Music and Arts Foundation(ADMAF), 2024 SeMA Omnibus: At the End of the World Split Endless will be held as a traveling exhibition in Abu Dhabi. This exhibition serves as a significant opportunity to present contemporary Korean art at the largest scale in the UAE and the GCC(Gulf Cooperation Council) region. Through co-curated collaborative project that takes into account the local culture and audience, the exhibition will reinterpret the past, present, and future of today’s media at the intersection of tradition, innovation, and hybridization. It aims to explore these elements within the inter-connectedness of Nam June Paik's concept of open circuits.
