Kaist Art and Technology Center (KATEC) has been established in 2022.
The boundaries between art and academia are dissolving, giving rise to an era in which creation and research mutually enrich one another. Modern society demands a holistic experience that integrates artistic sensibilities with scientific exploration, fueled by advancements in cutting-edge technologies such as digital innovation, data analysis, artificial intelligence (AI), and extended reality (XR). This transformation goes beyond artistic expression or technological innovation, contributing to the expansion of human perception and thought while creating new values.

The KATEC aims to foster global academic collaboration through Creative AI research and international seminars that integrate art, advanced science and technology, and the humanities.
카이스트 아트 앤 테크놀로지 센터는 카이스트 문화기술대학원 TX (Total Experience) 랩의 이진준 교수가 이끌며, 예술과 첨단과학기술, 인문학을 융합한 크리에이티브 AI 연구 및 국제 세미나 개최 등 글로벌 학술협력을 선도하고 있다. 또한 TX랩은 AI 시대의 자연과 도시, 현실과 가상 등 다양한 경계를 탐구하며 총체적 경험을 연구하는 다학제 연구실이다. TX랩에서는 'Technical Creators', 'Creative Technicians', 'Critical Interpreters' 세 그룹의 협력을 통해 AI 및 뉴미디어적 소통 연구에 주력하고 있다.
The KAIST Art & Technology Center is led by Professor Jinjoon Lee of the Graduate School of Culture Technology’s TX (Total Experience) Lab, spearheading global academic collaboration through Creative AI research and international seminars that integrate art, advanced science and technology, and the humanities. The TX Lab is a multidisciplinary research group that explores the boundaries of nature and cities, reality and virtuality, in the age of AI, with a focus on studying total experiences. Within the TX Lab, three groups “Technical Creators,” “Creative Technicians,” and “Critical Interpreters” collaborate to advance research on AI and new media communication.
